Lee's Better Letters is a result of the fine art of calligraphy hitting the real world of making a living. Started as a one-man shop in the basement in 1972, it has expanded to a one-man shop with a number of colleagues in an elegant warehouse space. By operating more as a consortium than a standard company, we apply experience from different fields to your sign problem.
Glass and surface gilding, silkscreen printing, fine art painting, sign carving, scenic painting and set design help expand the usual commercial sign shop abilities. Yes, we provide custom lettering on any surface, but we can also help with special situations.
Gilding is the art of applying a thin layer of gold, simulated gold, or other metal to a surface. Products employed may be real gold leaf ranging in karats from 9 up to 24; imitation leaf, composition gold, Dutch metal leaf, aluminum leaf, copper leaf; variegated leaf, mica powders and others.
We like to incorporate gilding into a sign design whenever it's appropriate. Beyond our gilding gallery you will find examples of gilding throughout the site.
Window signs provide a chance to work with two-tones of gold, a traditional choice for attorneys and professional directories.
